lynn Jawitz of Florisan, LLC, is creating a whole new Garden of Eden for the world to see, one impeccably arranged bouquet at a time. More than a florist in the traditional sense, Lynn is a floral architect combining the best of English and Dutch traditional designs to create a lush wonderland of floral fantasy.
A graduate of Brandeis University and Washington University Law School, she has been both a lawyer and stockbroker. It was Jawitz’ love of architecture and design however, that led her to study with both British master florist Heather Shaw and Dutch floral master Henri TeHave at New York City’s world renowned Parsons School of Design. After working with Kiyoko Horvath of the Kiro Studio, she became known amongst elite Japanese socialites and rock stars alike as the floral designer of choice for brides who wished to indulge in the fashionable practice of “eloping” to New York for a western style ceremony.
Her aesthetic sense is not merely a career tool, but represents her actual lifestyle. Her home is a lovingly restored late 19th century Victorian townhouse in Manhattan’s Carnegie Hill district. In 2003 Lynn was awarded the Best Interior Design and Renovation honor from the Great American Home Awards sponsored by Old House Journal and Preservation Magazine. Florisan actually got its start in this magnificent home before moving to its current midtown studio. “It was like having a spectacular calling card,” recalls Jawitz. “As soon as people walked through the door they were able to understand my attention to detail and love
of history.”
A native of Wantagh, NY, Lynn began to cut her design teeth on the architecturally formidable Upper West Side of Manhattan. Tight-fisted landlords forced her to learn the finer points of building maintenance and restoration. An arduously long search for the right townhouse – and a failed attempt to build one from the ground up - gave a nearly professorial knowledge of historic European architecture and decorative arts.
Such a varied and passionate background, all highlighting her eye for detail, has led to her become one of Manhattan’s most sought after floral designers. After realizing that many of her clients relied on her advice for more than just floral arrangements, she expanded Florisan’s services to include full service wedding and event planning. “It is truly invigorating for me to be able to bring the elements I love so much to others and know that I have helped in creating lifetime memories!” exclaims Jawitz
Other areas of interest that Lynn coaches her Brides on include Victorian tabletop silver (she actually knows which fork to use for the asparagus!) as well as period lighting fixtures and garden antiques. A recognized authority on Victorian home life, Lynn continues to live in Carnegie Hill with her two sons.
