Mad Marry Me Party
Mad marry me party cover full
For something that’s off-the-wall trippy and dee-lightfully delightful (not to mention Holly-worthy, thanks to Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz’s through-the-looking-glass nuptial fame), an Alice in Wonderland extravaganza is a fun, pun-tastical, tongue-twister of a time for both young and old alike. So don your most floppiest of top hats and your prettiest of frocks – it’s down the rabbit hole you and your sweetheart go.
advice from a caterpillar
Mad marry me party 1
Take a cue from the tenacious Queen of Hearts and dream up six impossible things before breakfast when it comes to all things Alice. Firstly, decide if you want to express the pastel-coated world of Disney or the drama and depth of a leather-bound book. Consider situating the shin-dig outdoors or in a local English garden with splashes of wrought-iron black and burgundy-wine red. Monochromatic bursts and blooms alongside staunchly manicured topiaries will help conjure up the topsy-turvy backdrop of Carroll’s classic.
curiouser and curiouser
Mad marry me party 2
Overstuffed heart-shaped chairs, teapots whistling with rosebuds, and enough saucers for an alien invasion – this wedding theme goes all out with verbose wordiness and a stylistic sense to match. Use playing cards for invites, potent quotables for table markers, and kitty cats just for the heck of it. Velvet throw pillows, crystalline chandeliers, cracked herringbone china, and clandestine goblets all make for campy, patched-up luxe.
ambition, distraction, beautification
Mad marry me party 3
You may have seen a cat without a grin, but a grin without a cat! Amplify your grinner with a sumptuous cherry pout and coral-swept cheeks. When your visage is prepped and primped, ‘childhood's dreams are twined in Memory's mystic band.’ Select a dress that is slightly reminiscent of little girl birthday parties – opt for a princess netted silhouette or delicate cap sleeves. Pinafore blue and precocious Alice go hand-in-hand, so consider adding an accent of peacock, periwinkle or robin’s egg blue in the form of a thick satin sash with quirked-out ruffles or scalloped edging.
who stole the tarts?
Mad marry me party 4
An Alice in Wonderland wedding screams cocktails in “Drink Me” bottles, almost as much as it screams round-the-clock tea pouring. Luscious incredulous desserts rule the roost – try silver platters of rum balls, frosted tea cakes, madeleines, and meringues. Ruby fondante, gum-paste edible blossoms, strawberry syrups, and vanilla sponge cakes are as easy on the eyes as they are on march hare appetites, while passion fruit, plum, and raspberry tarts are considerably ironic when filled with Devonshire cream.
the queen's croquet ground
Mad marry me party 5
So you’ve gathered your loved ones near and it’s positively madness. Indulge willy-nilly wandering guests with a game of Blackjack or Hearts. Invest in or rent a classy croquet set or even suggest a rollicking round of charades (“who in the world am I? Ah, that's the great puzzle”). Hand out personalized tea cups decked out in filigree engravings or silk sachet tea bags in assorted flowery flavours. Just remember, things are only impassible - never impossible.
