Turks & Caicos True Blue
Turks and caicos true blue cover full
Some things are best kept hush-hush, like your natural hair color or the great wonder that is the virgin cluster of forty Caribbean islands. Turks and Caicos is more likely to inspire a huh? than the oh!-accompanied Fiji or Jamaica; let’s try to keep it that way. Because as is, the islands (only eight of which are actually inhabited by us humans) are uncrowded and unspoiled enough for deep, schmaltzy intimacy to abound in every direction. Save for the Providenciales, a Caicos up-and-comer, touristy-ness is a total non-factor, leaving you to enjoy your sweet-pea in salt-pond-influenced peace.
the romance
Turks and caicos true blue 1
There are plenty of romance-ops in the Turks & Caicos. Stay in a glam resort on Grace Beach, sun-basking during the day and joining the local hoopla at night in the cute-as-button bars. For an equally beautiful, but quieter beach, try Parrot Cay. If a resort cramps your bohemian style, spend your nights in a lavish beach villa or a cozy country cottage and let the lapping waves soothe you to snooze.
the scenery

Turks & Caicos is just what you’d expect a Caribbean dream-spot to look like: sparkling turquoise waters, sweeping sandy beaches, and home to one of the largest coral reefs in the world. If you’re lucky, you might spot a green flash on the horizon at sunset, and if you’re really lucky, you’ll be too busy in your hotel room to notice.
the adventure

Missing out on the obligatory underwater adventure is totally unacceptable Turks and Caicos guest behavior. The coral reefs and crystal waters make the islands one of the premier diving spots in the Caribbean. Snorkel your way to the peepshow of psychedelic fish and antediluvian, sea-bottom shipwrecks. Those whose gills aren’t fully developed yet can enjoy some excellent golfing, horseback riding, or a scenic joyride in a rented jeep.
the secrets

Couples who thrive on adventure will love exploring the Black Forest on the island of Grand Turk. This unusual and unique dive is characterized by its dramatic cliffs and rare black coral reefs.
Each month, between the third and the sixth day after the full moon, couples may be lucky enough to catch the spectacular light show given by glow worms in the shallow waters of the Caicos Banks. Chartered cruises are always available during this time for those who want to experience this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
the attractions

Visit the island of Providenciales to visit the Caicos Conch Farm, the only one of its kind in the world. Here, you can watch a performance by a duet of trained conches, then dine on their delicious, but untalented butter-dipped buddies, and bring home souvenirs of, all together now, conch shells.
On the little island of Water Cay, you can find the endangered Rock Iguanas’ sanctuary. Turks & Caicos boasts the only location where you can see these creatures in their natural habitat.
